If you are looking to get out of Melbourne for a few days and Geelong or Surfcoast are on your radar, then there are so many things to do and see in Geelong and surrounding areas, all within a short drive from Melbourne. Purr-Central Cattery is just outside of Waurn Ponds and most convenient for cat boarding if you are having a short break. There are many choices for accommodation with anything from B & B to 5 star hotels with something to fit your budget and requirements.
Geelong has a beautiful waterfront and a stroll along the interweaving paths is a lovely way to spend an hour or two, there are bars and cafes and some fine eateries as well. The botanic gardens have an old worldly charm and is a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Right in the heart of the city is the old National Wool Museum which is not only a lovely building but a very interesting experience as it transforms you back to the golden era of wool processing in Geelong, it has a nice souvenir shop and refreshments are available next door.
A short stroll through the city will get you to the Geelong Art Gallery which is constantly changing exhibitions and the beautifully designed new library is right next door which is worth a look by itself.
The Old Geelong Gaol is something different but check for tour times.
A great family fun day can be had at Adventure Park at the start of The Bellerine Peninsula but allow yourself a whole day as there is heaps to do.
Further down the Peninsula you can visit the old fort in Queenscliff which is a picturesque old seaside town. Queenscliff has a ferry that runs across the bay to Sorrento which is a lovely trip where dolphins frequently swim alongside the ferry.
Another great day trip from Geelong is Torquay and the Surfcoast where our cattery is located. If you love the seaside, Torquay has some of the best beaches in Australia and amazing surf shops and cafe’s.
The Narana Aboriginal Culture Centre is on the outskirts of Geelong and really is a fun experience for the whole family, try boomerang throwing and listen to the didgeridoo expert then treat yourself to the gift shop before leaving.
Buckley Falls is quite a beautiful spot and a nice walk down to the banks of the Barwon River. On your way back stop in to Balliang sanctuary and see the wildlife living there enjoying the little city oasis.
If you are a car buff then a trip to the Geelong Museum of Motoring and Industry is a must, filled with so many greats of yesteryear it is sure to keep you interested.
So if indeed you need a few days away from the big city lights, hussle and bustle and you need a local cattery to care for your fur baby, keep Purr-Central cattery in mind.
